A University of Adelaide study reports patients do not perceive root canal treatment as any worse than other dental procedures.

The Australian study collected information from 1096 randomly selected Australians through questionnaires, dental records and treatment receipts in 2009. The participants’ self-rated dental health scores were checked when they received dental treatment, and again two years later.

According to the study, patients who received root canal treatment reported similar oral health-related quality of life as patients who have other types of dental procedures, such as extractions, restorations, preventive treatment and cleanings.
