Advocacy Week

0

As our Fall For Smiles campaign continues, OHA gears up to take action on the Hill with Advocacy Week (September 11-16, 2016), a major policy awareness effort within the campaign, focused on the oral health of families. While the Fall For Smiles campaign provides messaging and resources that support maintaining good oral hygiene habits at home, Advocacy Week encourages people to learn and speak out about policies that impact their oral health.  Please join Oral Health America as we work to ensure that every person can attain a healthy mouth.

Each year as part of the campaign, OHA conducts a public opinion poll to better understand consumers’ oral health habits, experiences and needs. In 2016, we are highlighting the 2.5 million grandparents raising grandchildren, otherwise known as grandfamilies. The poll commissioned by OHA through Wakefield Research delves into questions such as:

Are grandparents more well-informed about the impact of oral health on themselves and their grandchildren…or less? Do they find that accessing oral healthcare for their grandchildren is hampered by custody arrangements?  Are grandparents bypassing care for themselves in order to provide care for their grandchildren?

OHA’s findings include the fact that 57% of grandparents have delayed their own dental care to accommodate the cost of their grandchild’s dental care needs. Poll results will be released during the Fall for Smiles campaign through social media. The full report will be released on September 14th at OHA’s Advocacy Week reception in Washington, DC.
