Pilar Valderrama, DDS, MS has worked in private practice, dental education and research. She is an adjunct assistant professor at Texas A&M University, Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas. Board certified in periodontics, she is a fellow of the International Team for Implantology, as well as a fellow in the International College of Dentists and American College of Dentists. Valderrama has authored on periodontal regeneration and implantology, and has spoken at national and international meetings. She is also a member of the American Academy of Periodontology, American Academy of Osseointegration, International Association for Dental Research, American Dental Association, Texas Society of Periodontists, Southwest Society of Periodontists, Texas Dental Association and the Hispanic Dental Association. JoAnn Gurenlian, RDH, MS, PhD, AAFAOM, FADHA, is the director of education, research, and advocacy for the American Dental Hygienists’ Association and professor emerita of the Department of Dental Hygiene at Idaho State University in Pocatello. She is also a member of the Dimensions of Dental Hygiene Editorial Advisory Board.

Matthew K. Geneser, DDS, is an assistant professor and graduate program director in the Department of Pediatric Dentistry at the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in Iowa City. He is the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s (AAPD) public policy advocate for the state of Iowa and a member of the AAPD’s Scientific Program Committee. Geneser is a board examiner for the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and serves as a site visitor for the American Dental Association’s Commission on Dental Accreditation. Frederick Curro, DMD, PhD, is director of the PEARL Practice-Based Translational Network in New York. He is also director of regulatory affairs at the Bluestone Center for Clinical Research and an adjunct clinical professor in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology, Radiology and Medicine at New York University College of Dentistry.
Ashley Grill, RDH, BSDH, MPH, is a coordinator at the Practitioners Engaged in Applied Research and Learning (PEARL) Practice-Based Translational Network, and an adjunct clinical assistant professor in the dental hygiene program at New York University College of Dentistry. She serves as a member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association (ADHA) Council on Research and head delegate to the ADHA House of Delegates from New York. Grill is president-elect of the New York Dental Hygienists’ Association and a past president of the New Hampshire Dental Hygienists’ Association.
Hanna Horowitz, DDS, is an associate professor at Farmingdale State College in New York, where she teaches anatomy, pain management, histology, embryology and clinical dental hygiene.
Johan Aps, DDS, MSc, MSc, PhD, is a clinical associate professor and director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Clinic at the University of Washington School of Dentistry in Seattle. He is the author of peer-reviewed papers, book chapters and conference abstracts, as well as the recipient of scientific awards. Aps is a frequent speaker both in the United States and abroad.
