After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Explain the prevalence of oral cavity and oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (SSC), and the potential impact of the human papillomavirus.
  2. Discuss the etiology of oral cavity and oropharyngeal SSC, and associated risk factors.
  3. Describe clinical approaches to screening for oral cancer in the dental setting, risk management and diagnosis.
