Oral Health Implications of Antiresorptive Medications

Due to the potential adverse oral health effects associated with these drugs, special care is needed when treating this patient group.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

1. Discuss the prevalence of osteoporosis, and the types and properties of drugs used to manage medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ).
2. Describe when MRONJ was first reported, the estimated incidence rate, and factors that contribute to this condition.
3. Explain the oral anatomy most commonly affected, as well as clinical strategies for managing patients with MRONJ.
