EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Explain the prevalence of sudden cardiac arrest, as well as suggestions and requirements that dental settings be equipped with automatic external defibrillators (AEDs).
  2. Describe various pathologies for sudden cardiac arrest, and the importance of AEDs when responding to these events.
  3. Discuss clinical manifestations of cardiac arrest, and appropriate management strategies for the dental team.
