Within dentistry, hypnosis can be used as a nonpharmacological intervention to enhance overall patient comfort while reducing fear and anxiety.

After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Describe early uses of hypnosis in dental settings, as well as applications for hypnotherapy.
  2. List key steps in the hypnosis process, and potential concerns when using this form of therapy.
  3. Discuss the role of hypnosis in reducing clinicians’ reliance on pharmacological interventions.
