The genomic era is increasing scientific understanding of dental caries determinants, based on the interactions of host, oral flora and environmental factors.

After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Discuss the role genetics plays in an individual’s risk or resistance to dental caries.
  2. Explain common concepts and curricula that shape clinician’s outlook on the caries process.
  3. Describe the microbiome and its relationship to caries and health, and the importance of a diverse oral microbiota.
