The goal of HIV testing in the dental setting is to link infected individuals with the proper medical care.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Discuss the epidemiology of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in the United States, and common terms used to measure infection.
  2. Describe the purpose and advantages of early HIV screening in the dental setting.
  3. Explain how oral health professionals can help improve the health of HIV-infected individuals and reduce HIV transmission.
