Bone Grafting Materials for Ridge Preservation
Choosing the most appropriate graft material is key to successful outcomes.
AGD Subject Code: 490
Educational Objectives
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:
- Discuss the importance of alveolar ridge preservation following tooth extraction in maintaining the structural integrity of the residual ridge for future implant placement.
- Explain the properties of different bone graft materials, including autografts, xenografts, allografts, and alloplasts, and their impact on alveolar volume maintenance, osteoinduction, osteoconduction, and substitution rate.
- Identify the most appropriate bone graft material based on patient-specific needs and desired outcomes to optimize alveolar ridge preservation and enhance the success of subsequent implant therapy.
