Careful planning and placement, followed by proper maintenance, can help providers and patients avoid implant complications.

After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

  1. Explain the role of meticulous treatment planning and thorough assessment of patients and potential surgical sites when performing dental implant therapy.
  2. Discuss risk factors for implant complications, as well as strategies that can help providers and patients avoid or manage complications.
  3. Describe how periodontal disease can increase the risk of peri-implantitis and potentially compromise the long-term success of implant treatment.
