As more patients seek cosmetic treatment to enhance their smile, a report forecasts the global cosmetic dentistry market will reach $27.9 billion by 2024. That’s an increase from $15.8 billion in 2015. The report from California-based Grand View Research states that millennials and baby boomers are driving demand, as individuals in both groups seek esthetic treatments ranging from veneers, implants and whitening to “dental bling.” Tooth whitening, change in dental appearance, and intervention of malocclusion are the most frequently requested therapies. For practitioners, the report (available at bit.ly/GVcosmetic) notes the major hurdles to providing cosmetic dentistry are the cost of equipment and lack of reimbursement from insurance companies.
