The onset of sharp and painful response to external stimuli is a common experience for patients, especially those who have undergone periodontal therapy. Treating dentinal hypersensitivity is a routine part of practice, so oral health professionals should be well versed in its etiology and the latest treatment options.

Authored by Mia L. Geisinger, DDS, MS, an associate professor and director of the Advanced Education Program in Periodontology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, “Managing Dentinal Hypersensitivity in Periodontal Patients”  explores the link between sensitivity and periodontal therapy. This continuing education article, developed in partnership with the American Academy of Periodontology and sponsored by an unrestricted educational grant from Colgate, examines the latest research in preventing and managing dentinal hypersensitivity.
