0516-news-3The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is offering a new resource to help offices implement and maintain the latest protocols for infection prevention in dental practice. The 44-page document summarizes and augments recommendations from the CDC’s seminal Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings — 2003. It also adds tools, such as checklists, to evaluate an office’s infection control practices.

Available for download at cdc.gov/oralhealth/infectioncontrol/pdf/safecare. pdf, the updated information is supplemented by resources available through the nonprofit Organization for Safety, Asepsis and Prevention (OSAP.org), which offers training tools, videos, webinars and publications designed to boost compliance with recommended infection prevention protocols. The organization also hosts a Dental Infection Control Annual Conference, scheduled June 2–4 in San Diego.
