Managing Severe Delayed Cutaneous Allergic Drug Reactions

Consisting of Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis and other conditions, these rare but potentially life-threatening drug reactions require prompt intervention.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

1. Explain the role of oral health professionals in recognizing and managing the signs and symptoms of severe cutaneous adverse reactions (SCARs) to drugs.
2. Describe clinical approaches to diagnosis and treatment for various SCAR conditions, as well as mortality rates for specific conditions.
3. Discuss onset timing and the role of racial predilection for SCARs
