After reading this course, the participant should be able to:

Identify the systemic conditions associated with periodontal disease.
Discuss the evidence surrounding an association between rheumatoid arthritis and periodontal disease.
Explain the role of infection, citrullinated proteins and autoimmunity in both diseases.
Note the effects of periodontal treatment on rheumatoid arthritis.
