Study Shows SmartMouth Clinical DDS Effective Alternative to Prescription Chlorhexidine

SmartMouth Oral Health Laboratories’ Clinical DDS Advanced Oral Rinse is featured in a clinical study to be published in the Oral Health & Preventive Dentistry Journal. The study compares SmartMouth Clinical DDS Advanced Formula with 0.12% chlorhexidine mouthrinse and provides information that will help people with gingivitis.

The results of this study suggest that SmartMouth Clinical DDS Advanced Oral Rinse is an effective over-the-counter alternative to 0.12% chlorhexidine prescription mouthrinse in reducing gingival inflammation, bleeding and plaque, particularly when concerns over tooth staining, taste alteration, and patient compliance exist. SmartMouth Clinical DDS was proven to be an effective alternative to 0.12% chlorhexidine in reducing the gingival index, calculus index, plaque index, and patient bleeding scores. The study was conducted by Saint Louis University Center for Advanced Dental Education and Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. The facilitators provided 76 subjects with either SmartMouth Clinical DDS, 0.12% chlorhexidine or a placebo mouthrinse. The subjects were instructed to use the mouthrinse for six weeks and then be assessed for changes. The facilitators scored each patient on gingival index, calculus index, tooth stain index, plaque index, and bleeding. Participants’ compliance was also measured during the study.
