Dolores M. Alford, PhD, RN, FAAN, is a retired clinical specialist in gerontological nursing. Her 63-year career in nursing included being a professor, primary care nurse, and expert witness/consultant in legal matters pertaining to the abuse and neglect of older adults. Alford’s largest client was the U.S. Department of Justice, for which she helped to restore the civil rights of abused and neglected institutionalized elders. She has published more than 120 articles, contributed to four textbooks, and wrote Caring for the Individual Patient: A Student-Centered, Patient-Centered Approach to Fundamentals of Nursing. In 2016, the Texas Nurses Association honored Alford as a Legend of Texas Nursing.
