The FDI World Dental Federation has created an easy-to- follow “Caries Prevention and Management Chairside Guide” to restorative interventions. This new visual reference is part of the FDI–Colgate Caries Prevention Partnership. The guide is intended to provide clinicians with a deeper understanding of lesion activity and guidance in determining caries risk based on universal risk factors, such as socioeconomic status, sugar consumption and oral hygiene. These risk factors are classified in a context of five age groups, with three covering children and adolescents, and the remaining groups pertaining to adults and older adults. Caries risk assessment, recommendations for professional maintenance, and suggestions for patient education are provided for each age group.
