Penn Dental Expands Community Outreach 

Delta Dental of Pennsylvania and its affiliates have awarded a $650,000 grant to expand Penn Dental Medicine’s community outreach efforts. The funding will support PennSmiles and also be used for a new mobile dental clinic. “PennSmiles is our flagship program for bringing oral health education and dental care to schoolchildren,” says Joan Gluch, PhD, RDH, PHDHP, chief of Penn Dental’s Division of Community Oral Health. The program works with 24 preschool, elementary and middle public and charter schools in the greater Philadelphia area. When placed into service this fall, the new 40-foot PennSmiles bus will feature two dental operatories outfitted with electronic health record and digital radiography capabilities.
